Freeing The Spirit Bible Studies are written with a special outreach to the GLBT Community and all who would draw nearer to the heart of God!

Greetings Beloved,
It is with deep sadness I must report that Rev. Yvette Bertha Dube went home to be with the Lord July 23, 2009 at 9:37 PM. Yvette lost her 5 year battle with breast cancer after a valiant fight. She slipped away peacefully in the company of a hospice nurse and one of the members of her church MCC San Diego. I mourn the loss of my friend and conference partner over the years.

I leave you today with one of her past meditations.

Ken Gale

Webmaster/Editor of Freeing The Spirit

Today’s prayer/meditation is taken from the prophet, Isaiah, chapter 61, verses 1 to 3, and 8 to 11. When Jesus read in the synagogue at Nazareth from the first portion of this section of the scriptures, He told the people, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” These words you should inscribe upon your heart. They tell us Who Jesus is, and what we can expect from Jesus:

The Spirit of God is upon Me,
Because God has anointed me;
God has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed,
To bind up the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And release to the prisoners;
To proclaim the year of God’s favor,
And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn;
To provide for those who mourn in Zion--
To give them a garland instead of ashes,
The oil of gladness instead of mourning,
The mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
The planting of our God, to display God’s glory.

I will greatly rejoice in our God,
My whole being shall exult in my God;
For God has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
God has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland,
And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
For as the earth brings forth its shoots,
And as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up,
So our Sovereign God will cause righteousness and praise
To spring up before all the nations. Amen.

God bless you all, revyvette

I trust that you will find these studies very thought provoking. Some of you might find that it challenges your faith. If it does, I believe that is a good thing! My intention in doing these studies is not an attempt to convert you to my way of thinking. Rather, I want to help you to challenge your paradigms–to get you to thinking "out of the box" with regard to your spirituality.

It has been said that "the unexamined life is not worth living." I believe that unchallenged faith is no faith at all. Remember that God does not save souls in pairs. Each of us comes to God personally, and each of us walks with God as individuals, not in groups. If you would have a personal relationship with God, then you must work to develop a personal faith. You can't skate by borrowing someone else's faith.

I call these studies Freeing the Spirit, because through them I hope to encourage you to pray, read, and study what God has to teach you personally. Just as there are no two fingerprints which are alike, God's message to us through the Holy Spirit is different for each person. Guilt, shame, fear, misinterpretations, mistranslations, and ignorance all have had a hand in shackling our spirits in ways we don't even recognize. Trust that God loves you enough and thinks that you are important enough to Him to have a personal relationship with you through the indwelling Holy Spirit. Take courage and take steps to free your spirit by saying yes, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide and direct your life. Free the Holy Spirit by giving Her permission to "guide you into all the truth." (John 16:13)
