WHAT'S THE REAL TRUTH: Don't hesitate to expose yourself to the opinions of various authors and scholars, even those with whom you disagree, to seek their input, too. God does use people to impart what God has to teach us. Read and learn from everyone you can. But don't take anyone's word for anything. The ultimate authority for YOUR spirit has to be the Holy Spirit Who will guide you into all the truth for your life–personally and individually.
GENDER ISSUES: I embrace the concept of inclusive language, which in simple terms means: say what you mean to say. If the intention is to refer to men only, then say so, but if women are included in the audience being addressed, then say that, too. With respect to the gender of God, first and foremost we must understand that God is spirit, and as such is without gender. Jesus taught His disciples to pray to "Father," but I believe that Jesus was referring to relationship rather than gender, i.e., God is neither distant nor aloof, nor to be feared, but God is to be recognized as a loving, caring parent.
ABOUT TRANSLATIONS: In order to make this website as user-friendly as possible I have included the relevant scriptures, followed by my commentary. To avoid complications concerning copyrights, the scriptures shown are my own paraphrased versions, though within the commentaries themselves I will use quotations from various translations as may be appropriate. I encourage you also to refer to your own Bible and perhaps one or more additional translations as well to help you to understand the passages more fully.
