Freeing The Spirit Bible Studies are written with a special outreach to the GLBT Community and all who would draw nearer to the heart of God!

Greetings Beloved,

Sisters and brothers, may God's blessing be with you this week.

Saturday, May 10, is Mother's Day in Mexico, and Sunday is Mother's Day in the U.S.A. and Canada. Sunday also commemorates Pentecost, and is considered to be the birthday of the Christian Church. In Jewish tradition, Pentecost came to designate the fiftieth day after Passover. Also called the Feast of Weeks, it marked the end of the grain harvest and was celebrated with cessation of hard work and a ritual presentation of a cereal offering of new grain. It was one of the three times a year every Jewish male was required to appear before God.

As described in the second chapter of the Book of the Acts of the Apostles, on the morning of Pentecost the Apostles were all together in one place when they heard a sound like the blowing of a violent wind which came from Heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. They became filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages. They went out among the many pilgrims gathered to celebrate the holiday and the crowds were amazed that each could understand what was being said in their own tongues.

In your prayers this week, please remember the GLBT community in Moldova as they celebrate Pride there this weekend. There have been death threats and notices that the police will not intervene should violent acts occur. The parade marchers are limited to fifty people, but there is no limit to the amount of protesters who will be permitted to gather, and in other places thousands have gathered but have before been kept in line only by strong police presence.

Today's prayer/meditation is taken from Psalm 106:1 - 5

Give thanks to God, for God is good;
God’s love endures forever.
Who can proclaim the mighty acts of God
Or fully declare God’s praise?
Blessed are those who maintain justice
Who constantly do what is right.
Remember me, O God, when You show favor to Your people
Come to my aid when You save them,
That I may enjoy the prosperity of your chosen ones,
That I may share in the joy of your nation
And join your inheritance in giving praise. Amen.

God bless you all, revyvette

I trust that you will find these studies very thought provoking. Some of you might find that it challenges your faith. If it does, I believe that is a good thing! My intention in doing these studies is not an attempt to convert you to my way of thinking. Rather, I want to help you to challenge your paradigms–to get you to thinking "out of the box" with regard to your spirituality.

It has been said that "the unexamined life is not worth living." I believe that unchallenged faith is no faith at all. Remember that God does not save souls in pairs. Each of us comes to God personally, and each of us walks with God as individuals, not in groups. If you would have a personal relationship with God, then you must work to develop a personal faith. You can't skate by borrowing someone else's faith.

I call these studies Freeing the Spirit, because through them I hope to encourage you to pray, read, and study what God has to teach you personally. Just as there are no two fingerprints which are alike, God's message to us through the Holy Spirit is different for each person. Guilt, shame, fear, misinterpretations, mistranslations, and ignorance all have had a hand in shackling our spirits in ways we don't even recognize. Trust that God loves you enough and thinks that you are important enough to Him to have a personal relationship with you through the indwelling Holy Spirit. Take courage and take steps to free your spirit by saying yes, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide and direct your life. Free the Holy Spirit by giving Her permission to "guide you into all the truth." (John 16:13)

To instill in the lay reader the notion that the Holy Spirit should be your only interpreter of the Bible.

EMAIL BIBLE STUDY:

In conjunction with this website there is a weekly email Bible study. Should you wish to automatically receive a free new study every week, simply email your request to revyvette@aol.com and ask to be added to the mailing list.
